Icons in the Barricades: Incredible Ukrainian Protest Art

In January, the clashes between Ukrainian anti-government protesters and authorities and special forces erupted into physical physical violence. The biggest market of Kyiv became a battlefield, with smoke from burning tires drifting overhead. Police bullets and gasoline grenades were met by Molotov cocktails and stones that are paving. Over the past times of the thirty days, although the road battle raged, masked and helmeted protesters and authorities in complete riot gear saw a surreal sight.

Apparently oblivious of this chaos surrounding him, a new man set up an easel amongst the opposing forces and worked furiously for some hours for an oil design regarding the town in revolt. The musician, Maksim Vegera, stated later which he couldn’t resist the phone call of history. When you look at the tradition of Delacroix or Daumier, he discovered motivation from the barricades. He wasn’t the only person. Through the earliest times of the protests that are ukrainian designers have already been during the center of activities. (more…)
